Directions to plot and tree tag:
Tree is about 300m from BR Parkway. Enter near the rock outcrop covered with Toxicodendron radicans and head W up the slope. Tagged tree is a Quercus rubra of 72 cm dbh with tag #494. Conduit is at a bearing of 102 degrees and 6.5 m from tree.
Plot location was pre-selected by the project's stratified random sampling design.
This is a maturing oak forest with Quercus rubra, Quercus prinus, and Quercus alba. There is not much of a subcanopy, except for a few Betula lenta that barely emerge from the shrub layer. The herb layer is sparse. There are several large bedrock outcroppings. Some large trees are dead.
